Tourists have already started arriving, marking an excellent beginning to Dubrovnik’s tourist season. One of the most exciting developments is the direct flight route between Dubrovnik and New York, a significant boost for the local tourism industry.

Americans, alongside the English, are among the most numerous visitors to Dubrovnik.

The first seasonal flights from New York landed on the runway at Čilipi Airport, bringing American guests with high expectations.

“Interesting history, beautiful sights, plenty of activities,” Paul and Cindy told HRT. “This is probably our fifth or sixth time here. We keep coming back, we love your islands,” added Diane.

“The sea, I’ve heard you have good wine, and I plan to explore the coast a bit,” Amy added.

“We’ll have this flight four times a week: on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This year, they decided to use a larger aircraft, the 767-400, which adds about 20 more seats,” explained Viktor Šober, director of Dubrovnik Airport “Ruđer Bošković.”

This means the plane can carry 231 passengers. The occupancy rate is excellent, and Dubrovnik welcomes American tourists with open arms. These visitors are known for their high spending and less concern about prices.

“Americans have always been numerous in Dubrovnik. Last year, they nearly outnumbered the English and performed better than in 2019, along with Australians. These are the only two markets that surpassed 2019 numbers last year. This year, American tourist numbers are about 10% higher than last year,” stated Miro Drašković, director of Dubrovnik’s Tourist Board.

This year, Dubrovnik is expected to surpass the successful tourist season of 2019. The numbers largely depend on the airport, which is the primary entry point for most visitors.

“Interest in the U.S. is high. We hope to extend operations with United Airlines through October, considering the initial plan is to operate until September 30,” Šober added.

American tourists arrive with great expectations, and many leave satisfied.

“It met my expectations. This was the last stop on my trip from Zagreb, and it truly is the jewel of Croatia,” Milida from the U.S. tells HRT.

“This was the 63rd country I’ve visited, and I stayed for an entire month,” said John from Canada.

The season has started very well, and everyone hopes this positive trend will continue throughout the year.
