ROVINJ, 29 May 2021 – Croatia has been training in Rovinj this week as they prepare for Euro 2020 which starts in a fortnight.
On Friday there was some concerning news for coach Zlatko Dalić regarding centre back Dejan Lovren who could not train.
“There was one problem (today) as Dejan Lovren felt an old ligament injury that caused him to miss the last four games at Zenit and we will see what the situation is with him. I hope he will be fine, we have to be optimistic,” Dalić said, before adding.
“We are starting to work, matches are fast approaching and the guys had a tough season and it is not easy for them, but we have to refresh them.”
Lovren, who moved to Zenit St Petersburg nine months ago, captained the club to the Russian title. He was not able to take part in the last four matches because of knee ligament problem.
The 31-year-old was in good form at the 2018 World Cup and Dalić, who has stressed that he will not take injured players to Euro, will be hoping he recovers fully.
Dalić also said that fellow defender Filip Uremović has the same problem with his ligament.
“It always bothers him and does not allow maximum effort. The risk is to enter the tournament with such two players and I have to make decisions. We will see in a few days,” concluded Dalic, HNS writes.
Euro 2020 starts on June 11, and Croatia will play its first game on Sunday, June 13 against one of the hosts, England at Wembley stadium.
But before that, Croatia will play two friendly matches. First, on Tuesday, June 1, against Armenia in Velika Gorica, before facing Belgium on June 6 in Brussels.
