Beautiful, dignified, super intelligent, and always in a good mood – Dalmatian dogs are special. Unfortunately, there are fewer and fewer Dalmatians in Croatia, which is the home of this wonderful spotted breed.
A lot of tourists to Croatia are unaware of the origins of the Dalmatian dog, but thanks to Pago, a 4-month-old Dalmatian puppy from the island of Pag, that will change.
Pago is set to have his own picture book published shortly titled Dalmatinac Pago (od Luna do Fortice) / Dalmatian Pago (from Luna to Fortica).
The picture book will have Pago present all the places on the island of Pag.
As well as the picture book, Pago will soon get his own plushie (stuffed animal) and other souvenirs will be created with the image this real Dalmatian from the island of Pag.
“Unfortunately, there are not many Dalmatian dogs in Croatia today, so walking with Pago and seeing how much attention he attracts and how much children and tourists actually love him, was how the idea was born. Everyone in Pag already knows his name,” local Pag resident and initiator Kristina Alaburić told us.
Part of the proceeds from the sale of Pago’s souvenirs will go to dog shelters in Croatia.
Alaburić says that Pago will be helping his four-legged friends by brining more attention to Dalmatians, especially in Croatia.
“At the same time, Dalmatians as a breed will receive even more attention, as they deserve. I believe that their potential has not been used at all here. Few people know how old the breed really is and that their roots in Dalmatia go back centuries. There is so much history and stories related to them that they are an attraction,” she concluded.
