It has entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the smallest town in the world and on Sunday (27 October) a tradition that has been going on there for 12 years will continue when the annual Rakija Festival takes place.
The Istrian town of Hum, which officially had a population of just 17 (2001 census) and has its own governing council, has hosted the Rakija Festival on the last Sunday in October for the past 12 years. Producers of Rakija, a potent spirit produced from fermented fruit, are invited to bring their concoctions on Sunday where a competition for the best Rakija will be held during the festivities. Prizes for the best Rakija in all categories will be given out, as well as a prize for the best bottle design.
