Krk Island’s tourism hits record high with 20% surge in October

In the first 15 days of October, over 105 thousand overnight stays were recorded on the Croatian island of Krk, which is 20 percent more compared to the figures for the same period last year.
These achievements are an excellent indicator of the year-long trend, with Krk surpassing its five-millionth overnight stay.
“More precisely, our official statistics have shown that in the current part of the year 2023, we have recorded 5,082,763 tourist nights,” Majda Šale, the director of the Krk Island Tourist Board told Novi List, emphasising that with this result, it has now become more than certain that the islanders will surpass this year’s previously record-breaking season, in which a total of 905 thousand arrivals and 5.14 million overnight stays were recorded.
“Extraordinary weather conditions, the “extended” summer, and top-sports, cultural, and gastronomic events that took place throughout the summer and post-season, organized by our local tourist boards and representatives of the tourism industry, such as the record-breaking Baška Outdoor Festival, as well as numerous other similar events, undoubtedly attracted visitors to the island of Krk. Such events further contribute to our excellent results,” noted Majda Šale, not hiding her expectation of similar results and “echoes” in the continuation of autumn, from projects and programs that will take place in the coming days of October and November.
“As preparations for the next season are already underway, we are pleased to announce the joint participation of all tourist boards of the island of Krk at this year’s World Travel Market (WTM) in London, which will take place from November 6 to 8. The WTM is undoubtedly one of the most significant gatherings of tourism supply and demand, a fair program that hosts tens of thousands of tourism professionals from around the world, as well as numerous exhibitors,” added Majda Šale.

Šale: We want to attract more British visitors
“Our goal is to attract a larger number of British visitors to our island in the upcoming seasons. Although the number of visitors from the United Kingdom has been relatively modest so far, we have witnessed a clearly visible upward trend. In the first nine months of 2023, around five thousand British guests visited the island of Krk, whose stay resulted in just over 20 thousand overnight stays. Although this is a modest result compared to the tourist markets most favorable to us, the data gives us optimism that the mentioned result is about 15 percent better compared to that of 2022.
