Podravka, Croatia’s leading food company, has commenced work on a new logistics and distribution center (LDC) in Koprivnica’s Danica business zone. This investment, worth 48 million euros, is one of the largest in the company’s history and is part of Podravka’s Business Strategy until 2025. The project aims to meet the projected sales growth and the need for warehouse space for the next ten years.
The new LDC will cover 26,000 m2 of gross floor plan area, equivalent to three football fields, and will consolidate many of the current warehouse spaces used for storing finished products, raw materials, and packaging located in eight different locations. Martina Dalić, President of the Podravka Management Board, stated that the investment will raise the level of customer service, significantly reduce the need for internal transport, and contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions.
The logistics process optimization project launched in mid-2021, which analyzed the supply chain and established measures to improve logistics and warehouse processes, will continue during the construction project. The LDC will include a fully automated high-bay warehouse, a warehouse, an administrative building, and roads with all necessary infrastructure.
The total capacity of the LDC will be almost 62 thousand pallet places in different temperature regimes, and there are plans to connect it with the main export warehouse located a few meters away.
Tomislav Đuranek, Podravka’s project manager, explained that the chosen location of the LDC is in the immediate vicinity of Podravka’s factories, enabling easy connection with the existing export warehouse. The construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2024 and will meet the expected needs for storage space on the Croatian market in the next ten years.
Furthermore, the installation of solar panels on the roofs is planned, and the LDC can be expanded in the future if necessary.
Despite the exceptional rise in raw material prices, the Podravka Group’s investment cycle is progressing according to plan.
Following the IT and energy reconstruction and modernization of Podravka’s business headquarters, the investment in improving working conditions in factories and the implementation of new production lines in the Kalnik and Kokteli Pastry Factory, and the commissioning of the Sunčan Elektrana, the start of work on the expansion of the Soup and Vegeta Factory, Podravka has yet another major capital investment.
This investment continues a strong investment cycle that aligns with the adopted Business Strategy until 2025.
