With football being the number one sport in Croatia, grounds to play on have popped up everywhere. The obsession with football means that there are a number of grounds located in some spectacular areas. Here are just 6 of them to check out.
Imotski
Situated in Zvonimir Boban’s hometown of Imotski, Stadion Gospin Dolac is one impressive ground. It is located near the red and blue lakes on the cliff edge with a 500m plunge below.
Trogir
The Batarija football ground is located in the UNESCO-protected town of Trogir and is home to HNK Trogir. This ground is unique as it is located between two protected monuments – Kamerlengo Castle and tower of St. Marco.
Hvar
Križna Luka on the island of Hvar is the home ground for NK Hvar. Only a stone’s throw away from the pristine Adriatic sea in a tucked away little bay the surroundings are spectacular.
Rijeka
Kantrida Stadium, in the port city of Rijeka, is home to NK Rijeka. The stadium is being renovated so the club has temporarily shifted, but this stadium has featured regularly on world’s most spectacular stadium lists thanks to its steep cliffs on one side and the Adriatic Sea on the other.
Klis
NK Uskok’s ground in Klis just outside of Split is stunning. Used as a filming location for Game of Thrones, the ground is just behind the Klis mountain fortress which held major strategic value throughout history, because any inland force passing through Klis would have been able to easily reach the entire region of Split and Kaštela.
Rab
The Blato Ground is home to NK Rab on the island of the same name situated off the northern Adriatic coast. The ground is on the waterfront with fans getting a great panoramic shot of the old town in the background.
