No midnight or Christmas Mass at Zagreb Cathedral for first time in 141 years

For the first time after 141 years there be no midnight or Christmas Mass held in the Zagreb Cathedral.
The last time there was no midnight or Christmas Mass held in the Zagreb Cathedral was back in 1880 after the cathedral was damaged during the devastating magnitude 6.3 earthquake which struck the city in November of that year.
Over 1,700 buildings were damaged during that earthquake, including Zagreb Cathedral.
Although it was announced last year that there would not be a midnight or Christmas Mass held in the Zagreb Cathedral due to damage caused by the March 2020 earthquake, Christmas Masses were held in the Zagreb Cathedral.
“This will not be the case this year, the Zagreb Archdiocese’s office said in a statement,” writes daily Jutarnji list.
The reason being that the cathedral suffered some further damage during the mayor earthquake which struck Petrinja on 29 December 2020 and it is not safe at the moment.
The Archbishop of Zagreb, Cardinal Josip Bozanić, will celebrate Holy Mass at midnight in the Parish of St. Jerome in Zagreb – Maksimir, while during the day they will celebrate Christmas Mass at 10 am in the Parish of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Zagreb in Čučerje.
Thanksgiving Mass on December 31, 2021 at 6.30 pm will be celebrated in communion with the auxiliary bishops in the Parish of St. Blaž in Zagreb, while on Three Kings, on January 6, 2022, at 10 am, he will celebrate Mass in the Parish of the Blessed Alojzije Stepinac in Bestovje-Novaki-Rakitje, the statement said.
It will be possible to watch the broadcast of the Holy Midnight Mass, the daytime Christmas Mass and the Mass on the Feast of the Epiphany live on HRT.
