There are many successful people with Croatian heritage around the world doing great things in different fields. One of them is talented writer, actress and producer Ella Mische.
Born in the beautiful coastal town of Trogir, Ella moved to the US at the age of 12 when her mother, the well-known singer Tommi Mischell, went there to pursue her music career and they ended up staying.
“The big challenge when I moved was that I didn’t really speak English. I understood a bit, but what made it worse was that I was very shy. I didn’t like it at first, and I wanted to go home. But slowly I grew to love America as well,” Ella said on the All Things Croatia podcast.
What helped Ella in those early years was writing. She would write poetry and short stories, which would later turn into stage plays.
Ella graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York as an actor and started off acting and writing a number of stage plays, which led to writing short films and features.
Ella has worked on many different projects, including writing her own works, including While I Think of You (2015) and Toute La Vie (2017), as well as playing opposite Daniel Craig in a “Saturday Night Live” skit.
Her latest project was working on the Adam Sandler film ‘Hustle’ which is on Netflix.
“That was one of my first gigantic studio pictures. I came onto the project on the producing side as a cast associate to the all the NBA guys. It was amazing because basketball was not a big part of my life and now I feel like I know everybody in the NBA,” Ella revealed on the podcast.
Ella, who topped the list of 40 under 40 most successful Croatians in diaspora whilst still under 30), talks on the podcast more about growing up in Trogir, how it was working with Adam Sandler, as well as her work for Croatia’s HRT and lots more.
