Zagreb’s first covered bike lane part of new 22.3km corridor

The Croatian capital Zagreb is gearing up for a major cycling infrastructure overhaul as construction commences on the Zagreb East Cycling Highway.

This ambitious project aims to create a cycling corridor stretching from the Student Center to the outskirts of Dugo Selo, spanning a total length of 22.3 kilometers.

Construction will commence on Tuesday an in the first phase, slated for completion by summer, a section of 1,201 meters will be constructed beneath the railway viaduct and overpass from Zavrtnica to Svetica.

This will also mark the debut of Zagreb’s first covered cycling lane.

The path will connect with the existing cycling lane at the intersection of Branimirova Street and Zavrtnica, extending all the way to Svetica.

The initial phase of construction is valued at 263,000 euros, with an expected completion period of three months, Graad Zagreb confirmed.

Tomislav Tomašević, Mayor of Zagreb, will officially inaugurate the construction works tomorrow at 11 a.m.
